Naway Sahar laptop Scheme
INTRODUCTION:
Naway Sahar laptop Scheme was initiated by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, I 2012-13 under the scheme free of cost laptop computers were distributed amongst the talented students of the Province. An amount of Rs. 1 billion was utilized for the scheme and a total of 23147 laptops were purchased through a transparent process of open tender from Megaplus Pakistan. The Provincial Cabinet approved various Committees for transparent implementation of the Special Initiative.
AIM & OBJECTIVES:
To provide free of cost laptops to the talented students of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
PROCEDURE:
Vice Chancellors of all the public Sector Universities and Chairmen Boards were requested to provide data of eligible students. After scrutiny of the data distribution plan was shared with Megaplus Pakistan and the laptops were provided to the institutions accordingly.
Project Management Unit, Higher Education Archives and Libraries Department under “Naway Sahar laptop Scheme” provided 22058 laptops to all the Public Sector Universities and Boards of Intermediate & Secondary Education Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that were distributed among the eligible students.
The students were awarded laptops based on their performance in the last examination in the year 2012. The students of BS (4-years), BS Engineering, MBBS/BDS, law (5 years), DVM (5 years), B.Tech, top 40 students of BTE, top 10 students (from each discipline) from all BISEs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were considered for the scheme.
Establishment of Service Centers:
Seven divisional service/warranty centers were established to facilitate the students for repair and maintenance of the laptops. The service/warranty centers were established in 7 districts which provided services to students if they had any claim of warranty etc.
Establishment of E-Libraries:
8 E-Libraries were established under the Dell Corporate Social Responsibility worth US$ 100,000 in 8 government colleges of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to facilitate the students with latest technology and in view for proliferation of I.T as a medium of education.
Distribution amongst the disabled students:
As per Cabinet decision 2% of the total laptops were reserved for disabled students. The data of disabled students of universities and government colleges of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was collected and laptops have been distributed to the disabled students of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as per criteria.
Establishment of Static Labs:
In order to provide uninterruptable facilities of IT & ST to the students of BS program in government colleges and public sector universities, 975 laptops were distributed amongst these institutes by the Honorable Chief Minister Khyber for establishment of static lab. 114 laptops were provided to HEMIS of Higher Education Department for monitoring and establishment of e-lab.
The scheme has successfully been completed and all the laptops distributed as per policy.
