Brief of the Functionality of the Department:
Frontier Education Foundation (FEF) was established as a Corporate Body in 1992 under an Act of the Provincial Assembly. The principal function of FEF was promotion and development of education in private sector in Khyber-Pakhtunkhuwa through financial help and other measures. All the administrative and management powers of FEF vest in the Board of Directors. Managing Director is the Chief Executive of FEF.
Since inception, the Foundation has provided financial assistance worth Rs. 379.16 million including grant of Rs. 22.35 million to the private sector educational institutions for development and improvement of infrastructural facilities. Besides this, the Foundation has disbursed Rs. 82.590 million as scholarships to poor students to support them to continue studies. It is also focusing on human resource development (HRD) in education sector and for this purpose, an Academy has been established which organizes training courses for improvement of professional skills of college teachers and other staff. As many as 89 courses & workshops have been held so far in which 2641 including 1145 female have been imparted training.
To narrow the huge gap in female education, the FEF established 16 degree colleges for girls in the Province. The Govt of Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa is providing quality higher education to girl students of poor sections of society at affordable cost. Various Board & University examination results and independent surveys show that FEF Colleges are providing quality education to the satisfaction of students and their parents.
Achievements:
Frontier Education Foundation has been operating 16 Degree College for Girls having more than 4000 students. These colleges also cause FEF considerable cost. However, the management of the colleges is exemplary and people in general seem to appreciate. FEF Colleges produces excellent results in different Boards & Universities of KPK. Top ten position holders list of the FEF Colleges of last session i.e 2012-13 is given below in this regard.

Frontier Education Foundation has disbursed scholarships for the poor and deserving students of Khyber-Pakhtoonkhuwa. The basic criteria for this scholarship are based on Merit-cum-Inaffordibility. The Foundation selected highly prestigious educational institutions at national level for this scholarship. Scholarships are disbursed through 111 educational institutions of high repute in the country. Foundation has disbursed Rs. 82.590 million as scholarships to poor students to support them to continue studies.

The Foundation initiated training of College faculty by establishing FEF Academy at Kohat. More than 2600 Lecturers, Professors, and Principals of Government Colleges and other Education Institution have been trained so far. The training has been improved by engaging relevant faculty of National Institute of Management (NIM) and other experts in the training activity. Training modules are being developed on their pattern of training institutes of high repute within and outside the county.
Frontier Education Foundation has formulated its rules giving a sense of security to FEF employees and also bringing more discipline and transparency in the working of Frontier Education Foundation.
The Foundation held a National level workshop on “Education System in Pakistan and 21st Century” in 2006 which was highly appreciated and the deliberation were documented and many of the proposals accepted by Federal Ministry of Education.
